Karaton

One of the founders of Happs struggles already all his life with dyslexia, and therefore he came up with Karaton, a humorous and adventurous computer game that helps dyslexic children - through missions and fantasies - improve their spelling and reading skills. The game can be used by the speech therapist, but also to practice at home without feeling like extra homework.

The own experience
The founder of Happs Development, Hannes Hauwaert, discovered at the age of 6 that he had dyslexia.  It took him 3 years longer to read than an average child.  In Flanders, approximately 3 to 5% of children between 6-12 years are dyslexic – in total 13,000 children.
With a self-developed first version of a serious game, Hannes joined Telenet Kickstart in 2015.
Speech therapists
Karaton has a web platform for speech therapists.  The therapists can use a tracking option during the therapy sessions and track the children at home.  This ensures a closer targeting and a better follow up.

Today
Happs has grown into a young startup with a team of driven entrepreneurs. We are now working on our first product for iOS and Android and have decided to initially offer the game for free. We will first test which options are the most important for our target audience and how much they want to pay for it.
In addition, an effectiveness study is conducted regarding motivation and progress. This scientific foundation ensures the credibility of the app and distinguishes us from the competitors.

BlueHealth
The financial injection of the BlueHealth Fund ensures that we can develop and launch our product in Flanders. The biggest benefit is the network of BlueHealth. As a young team of entrepreneurs, we are always looking for experienced entrepreneurs, partners and networks that can help us to grow our business.
